Hormone oxytocin offers hope in treating mild autism
This recent article is of significant interest to those of us working with individuals with ASD. Also of interest to anyone with certain social deficits that makes developing and maintaining relationships difficult or anyone working with such individuals.
It has always made sense to me, based on the known physiological benefits of oxytocin, to encourage, as often as medically safe, women to begin a natural labor process even if inducement with a synthetic form or cesarean section is considered. Preserving as much as possible of the natural paradigm is important to assuring that prerequisites for balanced hormonal, neurotransmitter and immunological factors are put into place with the birth of a new life.
